Lawyer warns drivers about winter fines from December 1

There is a fine of 500 rubles for tires.

Drivers were warned not to drive cars with summer tires in winter. Lawyer Sergei Radko reminded that due to this violation there is a risk of seasonal administrative fines.

“If your car is equipped with summer tires in December, January and February, it is a violation,” Radko told Lenta.ru.

According to Article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offences, a fine of 500 roubles or a warning is provided for such violations. In this case, you can pay the fine with a half discount. The exception is non-studded winter tyres, which allow you to drive all year round without worrying about fines.

The day before, traffic police officers had already advised drivers to prepare to change tires. Law enforcement officials reminded that when the temperature drops, the asphalt may become covered with a thin layer of ice, which can significantly increase the braking distance and cause skidding. Car owners should switch from summer to winter tires when the average daily temperature drops to -7 degrees Celsius.
