The Ministry of Labor plans to ban free entry of migrants into Russia

Russian Labor Minister Anton Kotyakov said in an interview with Vedomosti that migrants should be attracted to the country for work through organized recruitment. In his opinion, uncontrolled free entry is the wrong approach.

Kotyakov believes that such instruments as work patents need to be improved. The Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Internal Affairs are currently preparing a model for systematically attracting foreign workers. The politician added that migrants will undergo training in their home countries, receive all necessary permits, including a medical certificate, and come to Russia with specific job offers.

The minister believes that employers should be responsible for the immigrants they hire and that they should be guaranteed access to labour. In particular, it is proposed to oblige employed workers to return the money spent on work if they refuse to work or are fired.

Life.ru previously reported that 80% of Russians surveyed believe that there is a significant influx of migrant workers into their region. The greatest dissatisfaction was expressed by workers in four industries: transport and logistics (92%), the automobile business (91%), security (89%) and construction (85%). Only 12% of respondents assessed the number of migrant workers in Russia as acceptable.
