Amendments on European integration come into force in Moldova
In Moldova, amendments to the constitution on European integration and membership in the European Union (EU) came into force after a referendum. The content of the amendments and decisions of the Constitutional Court of Moldova (CC) were published in the Official Monitor of the Republic.
By the decision of the Constitutional Court following the referendum, the phrase "confirms the European identity of the people of the Republic of Moldova and the irreversibility of the European path of the Republic of Moldova" was added to the preamble of the Constitution. "declared integration into the EU a strategic goal of the Republic of Moldova". In addition, the section "Integration into the European Union" will be added to the text of the Constitution.
According to Article 140-1 of the Constitution of Moldova, approved in a referendum, the country's accession to the founding treaty of the European Union is carried out by Parliament in accordance with the Basic Law, which provides for the development of constitutional norms. It notes that the EU agreement "shall prevail over any contradictory provisions of national legislation."
Earlier, the Central Election Commission of Moldova approved the results of the referendum on European integration. 50.46% of Moldovan citizens voted for European integration, 49.54% voted against.
