The State Duma approved an increase in the minimum wage to 22,440 rubles

The minimum wage will increase by almost 17% next year and the increase will affect about 4.2 million working citizens, said the head of the country's parliament, Vyacheslav Volodin. For example, these are cleaners, cloakroom attendants, school cooks, and hospital orderlies, the speaker gives examples.

He recalled that the head of state set the task of gradually increasing this figure annually. By 2030, the minimum wage will increase to 35,000 rubles. In other words, by 2023, the minimum wage should be more than doubled. "This is one of the national development goals defined by the presidential decree," Volodin said. For example, he recalled that four years ago, the minimum wage was 75% lower.

Deputy Labor Minister Dmitry Platyzin said the new minimum wage would be 16% higher than the standard of living of the working population. Mikhail Tarasenko, a member of the relevant committee on social policy, added: "Economic growth this year, which is expected to be less than 8%, and expected inflation will significantly outpace growth."

The minimum wage in Russia in 2024 will be 19,242 rubles per month. And 10 years ago, in 2014, it was only 5,554 rubles. Every month.

According to the law, the minimum wage is taken into account when calculating benefits for temporary disability, pregnancy, childbirth, etc. Even if the employer is experiencing serious financial difficulties, it is forbidden to pay employees less than the established amount. It is important that the minimum wage does not include allowances, bonuses, payments for special conditions or work results, and other incentive payments.

At the same time, higher "minimum wages" could be set locally. For example, this year in Moscow it is already 29,389 rubles, in the Moscow region - 21,000, in St. Petersburg - 25,000, in the Leningrad region - 20,125 rubles. The regional minimum wage affects the size of the tariff component of the salary, but federal indicators are taken into account when calculating vacation pay, travel allowances, and sick leave.

The increase in the minimum wage follows the general logic of the federal budget, which is based on the implementation of social security. In the three-year budget plan, special attention is paid to vulnerable groups of the population, Nikita Chaplin (United Russia) from the Budget and Taxes Committee reminded in a commentary to RG. He added that from February 1 of each year, the size of unemployment benefits will be indexed taking into account the inflation rate.

The bill is an important step toward fulfilling the president's mission to raise the minimum wage to 35,000 rubles by 2030, said his fellow partisan Dzhamaladin Gasanov. "Wages for workers in a number of skilled professions, including in health care and education, will now be increased, as will child benefits and stipends. Although these increases are far from official, they will have a positive impact on the financial situation of many citizens," he said.

When setting the minimum wage, legislators focus on the average salary. This is an indicator that divides all workers into two equal parts (50% receive above this level, and the other half - below the level). Since the new year, the ratio of the minimum wage to the median is 48%.
