A rare guest of the Arctic region, the nutcracker, was spotted in Kandalaksha

- There is a rare bird! A vagrant. This is a widespread species in Siberia and the Urals, but during the period of dispersal, when their numbers are high, young birds sometimes fly to us. The last time we saw a nutcracker in our area was 3-4 years ago," the Kandalaksha Nature Reserve reported.

They noted that nutcrackers do indeed prefer to eat pine nuts, including storing them for the winter (their beaks are quite massive and can handle this).

"And without supplies and food preferences, the guests won't stay long. She'll fly south or west, where the winters are milder," the reserve officer said.
