Reuters reveals epicenter of US election misinformation

At least 87 of Musk's X posts this year have made election claims that fact-checkers have rated as false or misleading, but those posts have been viewed 2 billion times.

Billionaire Elon Musk (the richest man in the world with a fortune of $259.9 billion according to Forbes) and his social network This is reported with reference to . hate

With nearly 203 million followers, Musk's false or misleading statements about this year's election have generated 2 billion views, the report said.

At least 87 of the businessman's posts this year contained election-related claims that fact-checkers found to be false or misleading, according to the report.

Experts have found that the platform also plays a key role in spreading misinformation about swing states. In Pennsylvania, one of seven key swing states, incomplete voter registration forms were misinterpreted by some X users as election interference, said Philip Hensley-Robin, executive director of the watchdog group Common Cause Pennsylvania. Some X posts, he said, claimed there was fraud in the voting, which Common Cause has denied (it likely referred to early voting).

Cyabra, a company that uses artificial intelligence to identify misinformation on social media, said one of its X accounts, which had 117,000 followers, had shared a fake video of Republican Donald Trump throwing out mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania.

Musk is a supporter of Republican presidential candidate Trump. From July to September, the billionaire donated nearly $75 million to the former president’s campaign and spoke at rallies for him. If Trump is elected, Musk believes it will be “the most interesting” time in America. At the same time, he predicted: “If Kamala [Harris] takes over, there will be heavy censorship.”

Trump called Musk a “smart guy” in an interview with Reuters and offered him an advisory or government job. He responded that he couldn’t wait to join the Trump administration if the administration wins. Musk said, “There’s a lot of waste and unnecessary regulation in government that needs to be eliminated.”
