Moscow pays tribute to MK war correspondent Dmitry Kholodov, who died 30 years ago

On the anniversary of Dmitry Kholodov’s death, MK published materials dedicated to him and photographs of those accused of his death.

"We published photographs, starting with Grachev, who gave direct orders, and ending with those who carried out these orders," said Pavel Gusev. - ... Many people who decided to commit murder passed away. Sooner or later they had to be punished. I do not know whether others involved in this crime will be punished...

Former MK journalist and now deputy Alexander Khinshtein called Korodov’s death a great loss for Russian journalism.

He said: "He was a pure and honest man." - I remember how we laughed at the fact that we always wore the same jacket. He was far from material wealth and gave all his money to his parents.

Dima died tragically, but his name is imprinted on a memorial plaque that will live forever. He did not die in the war, he died for the truth. This truth will live in our hearts. We remember him as a young, smart and talented person, and his memory will live on among those who knew him.

The President of the Union of Journalists of Russia, Vladimir Solovyov, stated that although he did not know Kholodov personally, he had read a lot about him.

- He was a very talented journalist. ...If I had been alive then, I would be 57 now. Can you imagine how much he wrote in those 30 years? Unfortunately, fate decreed otherwise. He died in a terrorist attack.

In fact, those responsible for this incident were not punished, and many other tragedies have happened to other journalists since then. It is terrible and unfair. But whoever organized all this will be held accountable. Not now, but later. And they remember Dmitry...

Dima's mother, Zoya Alexandrovna, said that Dima was a kind person who always found ways to help people.

- He left many notes and books about how people met him. He wrote a lot during his business trips. But he always returned to his hometown - to the newspaper!

Even in the most difficult circumstances, he continued to communicate with Moskovsky Komsomolets, sitting in the basement with other journalists during the fighting, passing on materials published in the newspaper. We learned that our son was alive from his materials on MK.

When Dima found himself in a "hot spot," he approached the soldiers and said, "Your parents are worried about you. They don't know where you are or what's going on. Please send them a letter," he said, collecting notes and messages to send to the families of the soldiers.

Zoya Aleksandrovna noted that for all these 30 years the family was supported by Moskovsky Komsomolets, editor-in-chief Pavel Gusev.

“We realized that this is a very wonderful, large family,” said Zoya Alexandrovna.

Anna Tolokonnikova, a lecturer at the Faculty of Journalism at Moscow State University, said that when she asks her first-year students every year what journalistic heroes they know, the name of Dima Kholodov always comes up.

"It's very nice to be like someone who wants to be like you." And, you know, it's our duty to remember him and pass this memory on from generation to generation...

According to him, when creating the monument, he wanted to recreate the tragic moment of the explosion.

- I wanted to show the moment of the explosion. Dima is trying to protect us and himself with a fragile newspaper from all this horror happening around...

Fellow journalists from MK praised Dima as a pure, courageous and talented person.

"Today is a day of remembrance," concluded Pavel Gusev. "We remember and will remember. These are not the words of an oath, but our inner conviction. Without this, we would not be defenders of freedom of speech and journalism. Yes, there were difficult moments, but we stood firm and will live and work in memory of Dima Kholodov. Our friend and comrade, the first to die on the battlefield of the new Russian journalism.
