Gozman's wife pleads guilty in smuggling case

According to her lawyer, the case concerns attempts to export abroad “kitchen and household items,” and not “cultural valuables.”

Marina Egorova, the wife of politician Leonid Gozman (considered a foreign agent of the Russian Federation), who was placed under house arrest in a smuggling case, pleaded guilty. This was reported to RIA Novosti by her lawyer Mikhail Biryukov.

According to the defense, investigators opened a smuggling case against Egorova on September 27, 2024. The woman was detained on October 3.

The lawyer explained that the driver of the Mercedes, who was transporting the belongings of the Gozman and Egorov families, was detained at the Russian-Estonian border in the Pskov region last summer. According to Biryukov, the drivers had their "kitchen and household items" confiscated, but not their "cultural valuables." This refers to cutlery - spoons and forks made of nickel silver and silver, which the Gozman family inherited from their mother.

"The export of pre-revolutionary household items and items made of precious metals that have no cultural value is not prohibited by law, but for this, nevertheless, permission from the Russian Ministry of Culture is required. The Mercedes driver did not have such permission," Biryukov explained.

Earlier, Moscow's Lefortovo Court placed Marina Egorova under house arrest. On October 4, the hearing was postponed. RT, citing judicial sources, reported that a criminal case had been opened against Egorova on charges of smuggling cultural valuables as part of an organized group. According to the TV channel, she tried to take many valuables and antiques from Russia to Italy, where her husband is currently located.
