Russia has limited the supply of vegetables and grains from Kazakhstan

According to the department, the restrictions will come into effect on October 17. They include tomatoes and peppers certified by Kazakhstan, sunflower seeds for sowing from third countries, as well as fresh melon, wheat, flax and lentil seeds from Kazakhstan.

"This decision was made in response to the inaction of the competent authorities of Kazakhstan to ensure phytosanitary safety in Russia," the service added. The Kazakh side, authorized agencies of Russia and other EAEU countries have been informed of the restrictions.

Since the beginning of this year, Rosselkhoznadzor has identified 215 cases of quarantine objects found in products from Kazakhstan. This is more than four times more than in the same period last year. Based on these facts, the agency notified the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan and demanded that measures be taken to comply with the requirements.

In September last year, the Russian government asked its Kazakh colleagues to stop issuing phytosanitary certificates for a number of controlled products, but the request was ignored. In addition, Astana did not provide the results of the investigation into the identification of quarantine objects.

In January, Russia lifted restrictions on imports of livestock products from Kazakhstan that had been in place for two years. The Russian market is open to beef, lamb, pork, milk and dairy products from regions of Kazakhstan recognized as veterinary safe.

Since the start of the SVO, Kazakhstan has banned the export of more than 100 types of goods to Russia due to anti-Russian sanctions. The restrictions concerned military products, including drones, chips and specialized electronics.
