The court has toughened the sentence of Sverdlovsk PR specialist Shirshchikov for justifying terrorism

The Military Appeals Court of the Moscow Region has toughened the sentence of public relations expert Yaroslav Sirshkov, who was found guilty of justifying terrorism, increasing his prison term from two to five years. His lawyer Fyodor Akchermyshev told URA.RU about this.

"The court recognized political and ideological hatred and enmity as aggravating circumstances. It decided to exclude the application of Part 1 of Article 62 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation from the sentence and increase the sentence to five years of imprisonment," Akchermyshev explained.

In February 2024, the journalist was sentenced to two years in prison for publishing about war correspondent Vladlen Tatarsky, who died in a terrorist attack. The criminal case was opened under Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The prosecution asked to extend the term to six years. Shirshchikov himself admitted his guilt and repented. In July 2024, he was transferred from Pre-trial Detention Center No. 5 in Yekaterinburg to Pre-trial Detention Center No. 4 in Kamyshilov.
