From now on, everyone who wants to become a subject teacher will have to pass a mandatory integrated national exam in their future specialty.

The Russian Ministry of Education and Science has postponed the introduction of changes to the procedure for admission to universities for one year, until 2026. The head of the department, Valery Falkov, spoke about this at an intergovernmental meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on October 16. In particular, from now on, a mandatory unified national exam on the future professional profile of teachers will be introduced for the education sector where subject teachers are trained. For example, to register for a position as a teacher in the field of "Geography", geography becomes mandatory for passing the Unified State Exam, writes the Kommersant newspaper.

At the end of September, the Ministry of Education and Science published for public discussion a new list of unified national exams that applicants must pass to enroll in various specialties at universities. Initially, it was planned that the changes would come into force in the summer of 2025, during the next admissions campaign. However, the parents' association spoke out against it. They expressed concern that children would not have time to prepare for the new tests. Then the authorities decided to introduce the changes gradually. It was also decided to resolve the issue of switching to exams in the Russian language for admission to engineering and technical specialties.
