Australia Decides to Send Abrams Tanks to Ukraine for Spare Parts
The tank delivery plan has been approved after more than 12 months of waiting, RIA Novosti reports, citing the Australian news agency ABC. A total of 49 M1A1 Abrams tanks will be delivered to Ukraine, Conroy said.
The head of the department added that the tanks will provide the Ukrainian army with greater firepower and mobility. At the same time, some tanks require repairs and can be used as spare parts.
The total cost of moving these vehicles is estimated at A$245 million. This delivery will bring Australia's total military aid to Ukraine to over A$1.5 billion.
Earlier, the media reported on plans by Australia and the United States to supply decommissioned Abrams tanks to Ukraine. This tank was purchased in 2004 and decommissioned in July 2023.
