A giant 200-meter St. George ribbon was unfurled in Syzran

On October 14, a huge 200-meter St. George ribbon was unfurled on the main square of Syzran. More than 100 cadets of the Young Guard and SVVAUL carried huge fabric sheets.

This action was timed to coincide with the evacuation of the capital from Moscow to the alternative capital, the city of Kuibyshev, at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. This decision was made by the National Defense Committee on October 15, 1941. Industrial and defense enterprises, the Soviet government, diplomatic missions and military attachés, honored figures of culture and art, leading Soviet mass media, and foreign powers were evacuated to the Volga. Kuibyshev served as the reserve capital from October 15, 1941, until the end of August 1943, when the last Japanese embassy left the city. After Kuibyshev was declared the reserve capital, the city's population increased by 1.5 times.

- This action is very important, since an important date is approaching in our region. Industrial enterprises and government agencies were also evacuated to Syzran. Today it is important to unfurl the St. George ribbon in Syzran in memory of our compatriots who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of our country," said the head of the Samara regional branch of the All-Russian People's Party, Arseniy Ganin. This was reported to KTV-LUCH by the Young Guard of United Russia organization.
