It has become known how residents of Kuban treat labor migrants and under what conditions they are ready to take their jobs

hh.ru analysts surveyed Russians to find out how they feel about labor migrants.

According to the survey, 80% of residents of the countries surveyed believe that there are many labor migrants in their region, and 65% of respondents believe that there could be fewer of them in Kuban. At the same time, the share of such respondents in the Russian Federation increased by 21 percentage points over the year, and in Krasnodar Krai - by 10 percentage points. Among professional professions, the largest share of respondents who said that there are too many immigrants falls on transport and logistics (92%), the automobile business (91%), security (89%) and construction (85%).

Across the Russian Federation, another 12% believe that the number of foreign workers in their city has now reached the appropriate level. There are 21% more such opinions in Kuban. At the same time, another 4% of respondents said that there could be more migrants. In Krasnodar Krai, only 3% want to see more migrants, which is 8 percentage points lower than the 2023 figure. The rest found it difficult to answer. The opinion that the labor market in most cases lacks migrant workers is shared by workers in the fields of marketing, public catering and tourism, raw materials extraction, retail trade and IT specialists.

During the survey, respondents were also asked to answer the question: "For what reasons does this region use migrant labor?" In general, in the Russian Federation, more than half (58%) believe that the conditions that immigrants agreed to do not suit local residents and that this is the main reason for hiring foreign workers in Kuban, 52% think so. Another 59% of Russians believe that immigrants earn less for their work than local residents, while 55% of Kuban residents say this.

As part of the survey, respondents were also able to express their opinion on whether labor migrants are beneficial to the region and the economy. Thus, 13% of 10 Russian respondents consider this category of workers useful in the labor market. At the same time, the share of such respondents has decreased by 12 percentage points over the year. In most cases, the benefits of migrants in the market were noted by residents of Krasnoyarsk Krai (17%), Tatarstan (15%), Bashkiria (17%) and Krasnodar Krai (15%).

Another 20% of Russians believe that this could bring equal shares of benefit and harm to the economy of the region, namely Kuban (23%). However, 62% of all respondents in Russia and 54% in Kuban still see only losses from labor migration to these regions. It is significant that over the year the share of such respondents in the region has grown by more than 20%, or 17 percentage points.

Interestingly, 51% of Kuban residents surveyed believe that migrant workers have jobs that local residents can provide. Over the past year, the share of such respondents has increased by 14 percentage points. This position is not shared by 33% of the region's residents. The rest found it difficult to answer. Those who believe most that immigrants can apply for work in Russia are employees of security services (73%), transport (+71%), retail (69%) and workers (65%).

And finally, respondents were asked to guess whether they were ready to take on the work of migrant workers who had left. More than a third (39%) of respondents across the country and almost half (47%) in Kuban said they were ready. This desire was expressed primarily by respondents in manufacturing (56%), retail (56%), restaurant and hotel (44%) and manufacturing (44%) specialties.

On the contrary, only 28% of the country’s residents and 16% of residents of the Krasnodar region are not ready to become migrant workers.

Meanwhile, Kuban residents are not like that, they are ready to take any vacant job if the employer fulfills certain conditions. Therefore, in most cases (79%), the job must correspond to the profession/specialty. Another 51% expect improvement of jobs. For 37%, the determining factor was an increase in wages at least above the market level and above what migrant workers earn. According to hh.ru analysts, another 31% of the region's residents could move to vacant positions if employers arrange voluntary health insurance for future employees.
