Already in the dark evening of Saturday, October 12, the wife of the 42-year-old traveler reported him missing, and it turned out that her husband did not return from swimming at Seixal Beach. Local authorities began searching with the help of the military and firefighters. Adverse weather conditions complicated the operation. Sea waves in some areas reached 3 meters in height.
A military drone spotted the man, identified him with an infrared camera and transmitted his coordinates to rescuers. The tourist was rescued from the cliff by helicopter and taken to hospital. According to sources, he spent 15 hours at sea.
At the end of September, a tourist vacationing in Sochi decided to swim in the sea during a storm, but did not survive. There were no rescuers at the scene, and first aid was provided by a woman, not a doctor.
