Skripal talks about life in Britain before poisoning

Skripal's testimony at the Salisbury poisoning hearings has become known.

Skripal's written statement, read by lawyer Andrew O'Connor, said he did not recall reporting threats to his life, as the Daily Mail claims. Before his addiction, Skripal led a normal life and was not warned of possible danger, TASS reports.

Skripal also said he did not know which organisation in the UK was responsible for his security and refused to take additional protective measures, such as changing his name. Although he was offered sheltered accommodation, he chose to remain in Salisbury and socialise with his neighbours, including former police officers.

His home had no security system, and Skripal refused CCTV because he did not want to live under surveillance. He did not hide his address and registered a London hotel in his name. Skripal claimed, although there was no direct evidence, that the poisoning could have been carried out with the approval of Russia's top political leader.

Moscow had previously expressed its intention to find out the truth amidst the disagreements over the Salisbury incident, and in March 2024, the British side responded to Russia's request regarding Skripal for the first time since 2018, with Yulia Skripal acting as Russia's consul. support was denied.
