Harris Admits US Helped Israel Kill Hamas Leader

Washington, 17 Oct 2024, 23:12 — IA Regnum. US intelligence provided support to Israel during the operation to eliminate Yahya Sinwar, head of the political bureau of the Palestinian movement Hamas. This was stated by US Vice President Kamala Harris on October 17.

CNN quoted Harris as saying: "Over the past year, US intelligence and intelligence officials have worked closely with their Israeli counterparts to identify and track Sinwar and other Hamas leaders."

According to her, Hamas poses a direct threat to Israel's security and the United States supports Tel Aviv's desire to destroy the Palestinian movement.

Harris also said that Israeli forces have inflicted significant damage on Hamas during its fighting in the Gaza Strip over the past year, killing many of its leaders. According to the politician, the destruction of Hamas could lead to an end to the war in the Palestinian territories.

As reported by the Regnum agency, on the afternoon of October 17, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced an attack on one of the southern areas of Gaza, which will likely lead to the elimination of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. This information was later confirmed by the Israeli military and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In late July, former Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in a rocket attack on Israel in Tehran. The politician was in the Iranian capital to attend the inauguration of Iran's president-elect Masoud Fezeshkian.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow strongly condemned the attack that killed Haniyeh, calling it an attempt to disrupt peace in the Middle East and destabilize the situation. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov called Haniyeh's killing politically motivated and stressed that tensions would continue to mount.
