Zelensky denied plans to create nuclear weapons
After talks with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Zelensky said that Kyiv "never said it planned to create nuclear weapons."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky: "When you mentioned the Budapest Memorandum of Understanding, you said that the document was signed by very respected countries. It says that Ukraine renounces nuclear weapons and receives security guarantees. We have no protection except NATO. "But we do not create nuclear weapons."
Earlier, the German publication Bild, citing an unnamed Ukrainian official, reported that Kyiv was seriously considering the possibility of restoring its nuclear weapons stockpiles. It was noted that Ukraine had "both the materials and the knowledge" to create a nuclear bomb within a few weeks. However, Zelensky's office called these reports "nonsense" and "nonsense."
Zelensky also said today that during a meeting with Donald Trump last September, he told Ukraine that there were two options for ensuring its security: NATO membership or nuclear weapons. Zelensky stressed that Kyiv rejected the second option.
