Moscow Zoo inhabitants begin to prepare for the winter season

Residents of the Moscow Zoo are preparing for winter. The zoo has already switched to a new working schedule from 08:00 to 19:00. The animals are now actively gaining weight to better cope with the cold. The public's favorite Pallas's cat Timofey has completed the fattening process. His weight has increased to 5.5 kg, and his fur has become thicker. Giant pandas Ruyi, Dindin and Katyusha tolerate low temperatures well and love to roll around in the snow, so they can be seen in their open-air enclosures all winter.

Irina Ovchinnikova, head of the Chinese Fauna department at the Moscow Zoo: "They love fresh snow, which makes them even more active. They start rolling this eye and putting it to themselves. Because it is a new object for concentration, a new smell and a new sensation. Katyusha meets her first winter by going out into the snow. She saw him as a snowman only in her youth."

Heat-loving animals are beginning to move into closed enclosures. These include the South African giraffe Lipa, monkeys and giant tortoises. And marmots and jerboas are sent to special cold rooms for the winter.
