The villagers loved it so much that they regularly knitted new scarves for it. In 2021, Roman Shustrov tragically passed away. He became one of the first victims of the coronavirus. A year later, a sad angel based on his sketch was installed in Karpovka in memory of the doctors who died fighting the epidemic.
As Anna-Maria Matis, the founder of the Rose Island improvement project, told SPB.KP.RU, a sculpture that Shustrov worked on shortly before his departure will be installed in the city.
"This is a summer angel," Anna-Maria said, "he will hold a windmill in his hands and spin in the wind." - The sculpture is already ready, but all the procedures need to be completed. We have been doing landscaping on Matisov Island for many years. Recently, benches and trash cans were installed on the embankment. An angel will sit on one of the benches. However, the improvement committee needs to review this area. So officially it is under the supervision of the city. This is a condition of the writer's relatives, so that there is someone responsible for order.
According to Anna-Maria, there is no procedure for relocating infrastructure facilities created by residents under the auspices of city authorities in St. Petersburg. For the past three years, a people's urbanization project has been underway on Matysov Island. Residents have planted more than 500 roses and grape vines, which have already twined around the fences of the Admiralty Shipyard. I used to write profanity here, but now it's a green area.
"Activists come every two weeks to take care of the roses, weeds, water, etc.," says Anna Maria. "All this is done without budget funds and subsidies. Therefore, it turned out to be difficult to transfer this to the city's balance sheet. Our Legislative Assembly deputy Natalia Astakhova is already helping us. I hope that other council members will support and vote for amendments that will help transfer the results of our work to the city.
