Hamas leader killed in Israeli strike in Gaza

Israeli forces carried out a random attack that killed Hamas leader Sinwar. They attacked where the militants were, and after the attack it became clear that Sinwar was one of them. DNA testing can confirm that he is the same person.

Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was killed in the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip, Sky News Arabia reported, citing sources. Sinwar's death was also confirmed by an Israeli source from Channel 12 The Times of Israel.

According to Channel 12, the Israeli military did not know that Sinwar was in the building they were asked to attack. Upon entering the building after the attack, the body of a man resembling the Hamas leader was found. The bodies have not yet been brought to Israel for identification, as the area where the attack took place is heavily booby-trapped.

Earlier, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that Sinwar could be killed. According to them, three Palestinian militants were killed and their identities are still being established.

Khan wrote that the victims were found with banknotes and fake IDs. His sources said Sinwar was in an Israeli prison and authorities had his DNA, so he could be easily identified.

Sinwar, 61, a founding member of Hamas, has headed the organisation's politburo since August. The Guardian named him as one of the key architects of the October 7 attack on Israel last year. Sinwar spent more than 20 years in Israeli prisons before being released in a prisoner swap in 2011.

Sinwar replaced Ismail Haniyeh as head of the group's political bureau. He was killed in a bombing at his home in Tehran in late July while attending the inauguration of new President Masoud Fezeshkian.

In late September, Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of another Islamist group, Hezbollah, was killed in Lebanon. Israeli forces struck the group's headquarters in a Beirut suburb while Nasrallah was there.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said after the death of the Hezbollah leader that Israel would continue to attack its enemies, including Iran, which supports both Hamas and Hezbollah.

Prime Minister Netanyahu stressed: “There is no place in Iran or in the Middle East that is beyond the reach of Israel’s long arm, and today you already know how true this is.”
