Belarus tells of rescue of Latvian family from persecution by authorities

Belarus helped a large family from Latvia leave Belarus due to fear for their children. This was reported on the Telegram channel of the Border Committee of the Republic (BCR).

The border committee added that the family arrived in Belarus on October 17. They were provided with a bus to Minsk. The committee noted that Belarus will provide comprehensive support to the families.

In June, amendments to Latvia's immigration laws came into force, setting new requirements for extending residence permits for some Russians. Now, passing a language test is a mandatory requirement. These changes affected people who had a residence permit before 2003.

Last August, Russian Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova noted that harassment in Latvia had complicated the process of renewing residence permits for Russians.
