Tokayev named an alternative to a peaceful settlement in Ukraine
Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has reiterated his view that Russia has unprecedented military power. He attributes this to its military potential, public support for President Vladimir Putin, and historical context.
As I have already said in the talks with Chancellor Scholz, Russia is invincible in military terms. This is a fact confirmed by Russia's military potential, the support of the people of this country for the policy of President Putin and history itself," Tokayev said at the plenary session of the Astana Forum of Analytical Centers.
The Kazakh president called for a peaceful solution to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and supported initiatives by China and Brazil in this area. In his opinion, the desire for peace through dialogue is “not a sign of weakness, but an expression of strategic foresight.”
Tokayev declared Russia's military invincibility during German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's visit to Astana last September. He noted that the failure to sign the Istanbul Agreement had missed a golden opportunity for peace talks. However, the Kazakh president remains confident that there is a possibility of resolving the conflict peacefully.
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Zelensky's victory plan "makes me shudder." German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also said that Germany's position on the Ukrainian conflict will not change.
