The rector of the Church of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God in the village of Gubernskoye in the Chelyabinsk Region, Igor Efremov, accused of murdering a fellow villager, has always shown positive characteristics and has not suffered any punishment for his work. This was told to Gazeta.Ru by the archpriest and secretary of the Chelyabinsk diocese, Igor Shestakov.
"Father Igor, according to the canons of our church, is forbidden to attend services. Since the investigation is ongoing, it is impossible to give any legal assessment of his actions. We are simply saying that this is a truly terrible tragedy. The bride has been banned and they are waiting for the situation to be clarified. Father Igor has only positive traits. During his service, he has never been punished by the hierarchy of our diocese. "As far as I know, he is in custody," he said.
Shestakov added that the murder took place in the bride’s house, but the circumstances of the tragedy are still being investigated.
"The tragedy did not happen in a church, but in the priest's house, in a private home. So far we only know what actually happened. A man came to him. By the way, he was not a parishioner of this church, he was just a fellow villager. "What happened next and what happened is now being clarified during the investigation," he concluded.
On October 17, the Telegram channel "Ural Mash" reported that the rector of the Tikhvin Church of the Icon of the Mother of God, Igor Efremov, killed his friend. The men drank together, and in the morning it became known that a fellow villager began to harass the priest.
Secretary of the Chelyabinsk diocese Igor Shestakov, in a conversation with Gazeta.Ru, stated that publications in some media about what happened are "monstrous in relation to people, including the victims," and added that they "do not fit in his head."
