Ukraine has launched a Lyuty type unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to strike deep into Russia, the American television channel CNN reported.

"He spent two days traveling around the country with his drone unit, preparing to launch more than 100 drones for a mission into Russia on the night of September 29," CNN reported.

The reporters noted that the units in question are part of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry. They called the drone “one of Ukraine’s most top-secret weapons,” noting that it is 13 feet (3.9 meters) long and has a wingspan of 23 feet (7 meters).

Journalists noted that the unit's targets were ammunition depots, specifically "trains parked inside a depot." The train car was reportedly "full of Iranian missiles." Following the drone strike, the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) told American journalists that the missile-busting mission appeared to have been successful.

On the night of October 12, Russian air defense systems shot down 16 Ukrainian army UAVs over the Kherson region. According to the region's governor, Volodymyr Saldo, among them were "fierce" drones.

According to Gazeta.Ru, "Lyuty" is a low-wing aircraft with a twin-boom fuselage made of fiberglass. The structure is reinforced with a metal mesh and plywood. For transportation, the drone can be disassembled into modules containing warheads, tanks, engines, as well as detachable wings and tail section.

The UAV's warhead is high-explosive fragmentation and weighs 50 kg. Control is provided by an inertial guidance system modified via satellite communications for autonomous flight to the target.

On May 31, 2024, Ukrainian forces attacked Kazan using long-range Lyuta drones. A drone was spotted this morning. Sirens sounded in some areas. Kazan and Nizhnekamsk airports were closed for departures and arrivals, and a "carpet" scheme was introduced in the republic. Some businesses were evacuated after reports of drones in Tatarstan.

Local media claimed that the area near the Kazanorgsintez plant was almost attacked. All employees of the company were evacuated. Kazanorgsintez is the only producer of sevilen and bisphenol in Russia.
