The main candidate for the post of head of the ROC after Pozdnyakov's departure has been revealed
Moscow, October 17, FederalPress. President of the Russian Fencing Federation (RFF) Ilgar Mamedov named who will replace Stanislav Pozdnyakov as president of the Russian Olympic Committee.
Stanislav Pozdnyakov, who served as President of the Russian Olympic Committee since May 2018 and was re-elected in 2022, resigned on Tuesday, October 15, despite Mamedov having previously been informed of a possible decision. Ilgar Mamedov noted that the news of his resignation was unexpected and suggested that the announcement would be made after the last Executive Committee of the Russian Orthodox Church in November.
He also noted that this model should reduce the risk of confrontation with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), citing the experience of China, where the head of the Ministry of Sports and the head of the National Olympic Committee are one and the same person.
Earlier, 360.ru wrote that Pozdnyakov told how he decided to resign. He is leaving his post two years before the end of his term.
