Hackers hacked "Reserve+" and stole information about Ukrainian reservists
The Reserve+ app was launched by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry in mid-May after Ukraine tightened mobilization rules. Hackers managed to hack the app's chatbot and send malware to users to steal data.
Hackers broke into a Telegram bot in the Reserve+ app, officially marked by the Ministry of Defense, and launched a malicious program that could steal user data and delete itself. This was reported by cybersecurity expert Konstantin Korsun on his Facebook page (belongs to the Meta company, recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) and received confirmation from the Special Communications Service of Ukraine.
So, according to the official bot's message, "to change the registry correctly" you need to download a special program REZERVPLUS.zip. But it turned out that the program actually stole all possible information from the phone and deleted it on its own, and the person did not even know about it, Korsun noted.
The State Special Communications Service confirmed that links to bots in the Reserve+ app “were previously published, especially on the official pages of government agencies,” but now “lead to malicious accounts” where the distribution of malware is recorded. At the same time, Deputy Defense Minister Ekaterina Chernorenko stated that Reserve+ does not have bots or pages in Telegram.
According to Korsun, the hack may have involved DaVinci Group, a hacker group that has previously used similar tools. The expert said the hackers had data on a number of Ukrainian military personnel and reservists. "And we still don't know the exact number of affected devices and the number of 'chain' defeats that are repeated during contact and contact contact," Korsun said.
He blamed the developers for "attaching an unruly Telegram bot to their super-critical force mobilization app."
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense launched the mobile application "Reserve+" in mid-May after the intensive mobilization in Ukraine. According to the law, from that moment on, Ukrainian conscripts had to update their information at the military registration and enlistment office within 60 days. The rules for serving summonses to court have also changed. Summons can now be served through the "Electronic Conscript's Office".
The Reserve+ application for military personnel, conscripts and reservists allows updating information online. After that, Ukrainians will have access to information in the electronic register of conscripts "Obereg". Also in the "reserve army" you can apply for a deferment of service or choose a specialty in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
