President of the Republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said at the plenary session of the Astana Think Tank Forum that Russia is militarily invincible and Kazakhstan considers it necessary to explore options for a peaceful solution to the problem in Ukraine.
"Russia is militarily invincible. This is a fact confirmed by Russia's military potential, the support of the country's population for President [Vladimir] Putin's policy and history itself. That is why we believe it is necessary to explore alternatives to a peaceful solution and support the realistic plans of all countries, including China and Brazil. "There is no other way," he said (quoting Tangrinho).
An alternative scenario, according to Tokayev, could be a "war of mutual extermination," "a path to the abyss." "Seeking peace through constructive negotiations is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strategic prudence," he concluded.
The President of Kazakhstan has repeatedly called on Moscow and kyiv to resolve the dispute peacefully. At the same time, he called the DPR and LPR "quasi-state territories" that Astana does not recognize.
Last June, President Putin announced the conditions for the start of negotiations, including the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions and international recognition of these four regions and the Crimean Peninsula as Russian territory.
