Radiation fog forms in Moscow

A radioactive fog formed in Moscow, reducing airport visibility to 300 meters.

TASS reported that a radiation haze was observed in Moscow on Thursday. Leading specialist at the Phobos meteorological center Yevgeny Tishkovets said that the reason for its formation is the nighttime radiation cooling of the ground air layer in conditions of clear skies, calm air, and condensation of water vapor.

Visibility at Moscow's main airport was poor due to fog. For example, visibility at Sheremetyevo was reduced to 500 m, and at Vnukovo to 300 m. According to Tishkovets's forecasts, this phenomenon should disappear two to three hours after sunrise.

Earlier, a radiation haze not related to radioactivity was also observed in the capital, explained the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center, Roman Vilfand.
