A number of antibiotics have disappeared in some regions of Russia

The antibiotics roxithromycin, azithromycin, clarithromycin and erythromycin have disappeared from pharmacies in Dagestan, Crimea, Chechnya, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia and other regions. The reasons for the shortage include logistical difficulties and the transition to new drugs.

Widely used antibiotics have disappeared from many regions of Russia. We are talking about at least 25 regions where such drugs as roxithromycin, azithromycin, clarithromycin and erythromycin cannot be sold, Izvestia has found out.

Antibiotics have disappeared from pharmacies in Dagestan, Crimea, Chechnya, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia and other regions. The reason for the shortage is logistical difficulties and the transition to new drugs. Business FM named Moscow pharmacy chains where, among the above-mentioned drugs, only clarithromycin is available. Roxithromycin was not available, as were Hemomycin and Sumamox (trade name of azithromycin).

Business FM also decided to check whether there is a problem with these drugs in Crimea. Local journalist and blogger Alexander Gorny says:

Experts are confident that it can be replaced by other drugs, but this is not always the case. For example, clarithromycin is necessary for the treatment of Helicobacter pylori, which causes gastritis and peptic ulcer disease in almost 99% of cases, and there is no alternative to this drug. Nikolai Bespalov, director of development at the analytical company RNC Pharma, says that the remaining missing drugs can be replaced, and their analogues are much more effective.

The press service of Roszdravnadzor reported that the drug is steadily distributed among the population. It also turned out, for example, that according to the drug labeling system in Dagestan there are about 30 thousand packages of azithromycin, more than 7 thousand packages of clarithromycin and more than 45 thousand packages of erythromycin.

There are more than 70 thousand packages of azithromycin, more than 8 thousand packages of clarithromycin and about 4 thousand packages of erythromycin in Crimea. The department asked journalists to check the information more carefully.
