A double murder committed 14 years ago has been solved in the Irkutsk region
"A criminal case is currently underway, which began in June 2010 on unknown facts of the disappearance of a man and a woman for committing a crime under subparagraph "a" of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code (...). The report states: "Code of the Russian Federation (2 people killed)."
During the preliminary investigation, it was confirmed that one woman and one man went missing after leaving the village of Khomutova by car in April 2010. The location was not found. The preliminary investigation was suspended because the person who committed the crime was not identified.
On October 4, 2024, the investigation into this criminal case was resumed. A diving team, together with forensic experts and fire and rescue services, examined the bottom of the quarry near the village of Khomutova. The submerged car with the remains of the victims was found 25 meters from the shore at a depth of more than 4 meters.
The police added that they were able to confirm the identity of the suspect through search operations. It turned out to be the victim's husband. He was detained with the assistance of Russian guards.
According to investigators, the suspect left home in a car with his friend, wife, and acquaintance on the evening of April 28, 2010. On the bank of the quarry, the accused, driven by jealousy towards the victim, together with his friend, brutally beat the woman and her acquaintance. The suspect's wife and his acquaintance were injured and died on the spot. The attackers loaded the bodies of the victims into a car and drove them to the quarry to hide the traces of their crimes.
The victim's husband has been charged. The court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention for him. According to the Ministry of Justice, the accused's accomplice died in May 2024.
Earlier in Primorye, investigators reportedly completed the investigation of a criminal case into the murder of businessman Andrei Smoldyrev near the Ussuriysk administration building in 2003.
