Moms and dads cried. Novosibirsk saw off the first conscripts of autumn 2024 to the army
On October 15, young Siberians called up for military service in the Russian Armed Forces were escorted from the walls of the Military Council of the Dzerzhinsky and Kalininsky Districts. A Sib.fm correspondent visited the site of the event.
The event began at 8am, and the men, their relatives and friends began to approach the building. A total of 20 conscripts served in the two regions.
Galina Zaeva, mother of 20-year-old Mikhail, who is set to become a military man, shared her experience with a Sib.fm correspondent. She said that she worries about her son, but at the same time understands that he made a conscious decision to serve.
"I have a feeling of normality, nothing special. Leaving my family is not scary. Before the service, I did not read about the army and was calmer," shared conscript Mikhail.
After graduating from college, Sibiryak decided to join the army. Mikhail said that he does not know which unit he will serve in and is counting on luck.
The event was attended by military commissars of the Dzerzhinsky and Kalininsky districts Sergei Grinchenko. It is reported that the conscription of young people for military service will continue in the fall. Russians are called up for service in the country for a period of one year, with the exception of recently merged institutions.
"We have no problems with traditions. Everyone arrives on time and in an organized manner. Our youth come with a high sense of patriotism and a desire to serve. Few refuse, and some, in the old-fashioned way, try to avoid the military," the military commissar explained.
He added that the current military situation is very different from what it was 20-30 years ago. According to him, recruits can expect warm barracks, hot water, three meals a day and quality medicine.
"Those who enter the training center will undergo special military training. They will be able to become drivers, operators, and shooters," said Sergei Grinchenko.
In conversations with parents, the commissioner noted that this year will fly by for young people. He also said that parents and friends can attend the oath taking if any of them are sent to serve in the local service.
"Of course, I want to provide good service to people. No service is easy. They are our future, the defenders of our country. And this is not the first time we have seen people off to the army," the chief said.
After negotiations between the head of the regional administration, Konstantin Sobolev, and the military commander, German Shatul, the young Siberians lined up in a row, and the priest sprinkled them with holy water.
Finally it was time to say goodbye to them as the bus was ready to leave. The screams of mothers could be heard amidst the loud noise and the stingy tears of men were frozen on the faces of fathers.
But these people, who were about to spend a year away from their families, acted bravely. They did not cry or get sad, but simply smiled and reassured their loved ones.
Let me clarify that the autumn conscription for military service will take place from October 1 until the end of the year.
