Tightening the penalty for concealing vehicle license plates has become an important topic of discussion after Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the corresponding law. As the coordinator of the Blue Buckets movement and automobile expert Petr Shkumatov explained in an interview with Lenta.ru, the changes will only affect cases of deliberate concealment of license plates using special devices, and not situations where license plates become illegible. does not work. Shkumatov emphasized that there will be no punishment if snowballs or other natural obstacles get stuck in the room. In these circumstances, the same punishment remains the same. The first offense, in which the number is illegible due to a foreign object, is punishable only by a fine of 5,000 rubles or temporary deprivation of rights for up to 3 months. However, in the case of repeated violations, the consequences can be much more serious if the number plate is hidden by using special devices. The expert recalled that the law provides for two different approaches to punishment. The first case concerns accidental situations, the second – cases of deliberate concealment of numbers.
