Hid the number - lose your license: Russia has toughened the penalty for driving without state license plates
"Press the button and get the result!" - this is probably what unscrupulous car owners called when they ordered a special service from "gray" craftsmen - installation of devices for hiding or changing car numbers. Easy and convenient. By pressing a button in your car, the device flips the frame, and you can drive without fear of fines for the camera or violation of traffic rules.
Previously, a fine of 5,000 rubles or deprivation of rights for a period of 1 to 3 months was imposed. Now it is simply deprivation! And for a more impressive period - from a year to a year and a half. By the way, this measure applies not only to drivers of cars with an "inverted frame", but also to drivers of cars that do not have license plates at all (of course, this does not apply to newly purchased cars - it is all the same Obtaining license plates from the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate takes 10 days. The document has already been signed by President Vladimir Putin and came into force on October 14.
- I don't think there can be two opinions. It's a very useful indicator. It's a pity it wasn't adopted earlier," says Jan Heitzer, vice president of the National Automobile Union. "I'm not ready to say that there are many such drivers. Otherwise, you will continue to see such violators on dedicated traffic lanes or in the oncoming traffic lane. But they certainly exist, and each such character on the road represents a serious danger. Now the threat of disenfranchisement will eliminate some of these car owners.
But this is impossible without traffic police officers. Such violators must be identified manually. It is impossible to detect an inverted frame using an automatic photo-video recording system. But the help of conscientious citizens who can detect these devices and report them to law enforcement agencies will also be useful.
- There are many ways to hide the numbers. Cover it with dirt and stick a piece of paper on it... This is something that is actively used, including by owners of very expensive cars, to avoid parking costs, - says Jan Heitzeer. - This detail also needs to be sorted out, but in this case the driver can say that leaves or dirt accidentally got stuck. In some situations, this is true. Therefore, punishing such incidents as precisely as possible is somewhat risky. There is a risk of punishing not the culprit, but the one who is simply not careful enough. However, you must agree that it is impossible to accidentally install a special device. This means that the driver deliberately planned to break the law. And it is not true that everything is limited to traffic rules. The same devices can be used by criminals and terrorists for criminal purposes. We must fight this problem very decisively.
At the same time, experts note that it would be a good idea to introduce strict fines for services that provide such services.
