Is it worth going to a sanatorium if you are under 50? An honest answer from a Nizhny Novgorod resident

Vacation in a sanatorium – is it worth it? Honestly, the answer depends on your age. But let's make a somewhat objective list of pros and cons. A 24-year-old resident of Nizhny Novgorod just returned from a sanatorium and shared her impressions with NewsNN.

You don't have to cook. Imagine that. All you have to do is wash your hands, in addition to breakfast, lunch, dinner and afternoon snack. After a week, it starts to seem like food should just fall from heaven to earth like manna from heaven. Let's be honest, in everyday life we don't have the time or energy to cook that many dishes.

Between treatments, you won’t have to lie in bed, watch a movie, read a book, or scroll through social media feeds and blame yourself for missing your vacation. After all, it’s important to cuddle up to your pillow at home. Doing the same in a sanatorium is something completely different! In tourism, you can miss out on a lot of opportunities without even leaving the hotel. But in a sanatorium, lying in your room is sacred. stay! They say they watch movies and read books. Sanatoriums sometimes have a lot of free time. So I “finished” a comic book, two audiobooks, a TV series, and watched several films that I had previously put off. Now the question is: if I have to cook my own breakfast, lunch, and dinner, will I have enough time for that? The gym and pool are right around the corner, so you don’t have to pay extra, and you can work out even in the morning. Within a week, I realized that I really enjoyed working out on the treadmill and that a healthy lifestyle is generally cool. But I immediately realized that when I returned home, it would all be over. Because there was nowhere to put a treadmill (and there were no good gyms near the house where I lived). And morning exercises are no longer interesting, because they are not called "procedures". If you want, you can always go to the sanatorium's entertainment center (locals from neighboring villages also go there) and order cocktails and pizza there. This way you can feel like a person going against the system, pampering yourself with harmful products from your health complex.

In some rooms of the sanatorium there lived many small ants... And this is not even a minus, but the reason for my first "complaint". Over time, you yourself begin to feel like an ant. Imagine: a hundred people wake up at the same time, constantly meet in restaurants, go for massages, usually do not leave their territory, move slowly... It is difficult to explain, but you feel almost like zombie ants. Maybe this is a problem of the young age of the sanatorium, but sometimes there was a lack of variety and more complex activities in life. Personally, I was lucky. I did not go alone. If you are under 45, we recommend that you do the same. Otherwise, it will be difficult to find friends there. And after a week, you will want to communicate. But in fairness, it should be noted that not 100% of sanatorium visitors are pensioners. There is one obsessive thought that torments you from 9 am to 6 pm, when you have time to eat three times, read a book, undergo various procedures, play sports, watch a movie and chat with friends on social networks. "Soon you'll be home, and 9 to 6 will mean only one thing: work. And there will be dinner for the rest of my life."

A little socialism: how much does all this improve medicine? As a place to relax, a sanatorium is a wonderful idea, but it also has its place as a medical institution. And so you sit during the procedure. The idea is that the stream of water from the sink pleasantly touches your palms, and you remember hospitals and nurses' salaries. It seems that a large number of sanatoriums (and Moscow clinics) can raise the average indicators of the state of Russian medicine. Flexible schedule. What would you choose? Would you rather sleep for another 30 minutes or go to the neighboring building and get a massage? I am the first and I am not sure if I did the right thing. Some procedures are popular, but there may not be many doctors or clinics for them. In this regard, when registering, the doctor can make a recommended schedule of procedures so that you can make four visits to different specialists by 12 noon or until most of the day. However, this minus is somewhat offset by the second point about the lack of communication. Ultimately, you can practice your communication skills by arranging with your doctor to reschedule the procedure.

So is it worth going to a sanatorium? It is impossible to say for sure. If you have the opportunity to go to a resort in New Zealand instead, go there. No less interesting activity during the vacation can be visiting local domestic villages. But you can compare endlessly to find new reasons that will not go away. A sanatorium is at least an interesting and useful experience. So try it!
