St. Petersburg public transport drivers to receive salary increase in 2025

Public transport drivers in St. Petersburg will receive more benefits next year. City officials plan to index salaries at the expense of the budget. This was reported to SPB.KP.RU by the Chairman of the Transport Committee of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg Alexey Tsivilev.

- All three private bus companies operating in St. Petersburg had the same position and said that there is an acute shortage of drivers. The staff shortage is about 25%, so some buses do not operate at all," said Alexey Tsivilev. "At the same time, airlines do not have the resources to increase salaries. They work under a contract signed in 2022. Indexation is provided, but it is not enough, since everything is getting more expensive faster. A representative of the Finance Committee said that the budget for next year, submitted for approval to the Legislative Assembly, includes an increase in funding specifically to increase the salaries of public transport drivers. However, the amount of the increase is not disclosed.

The issue of drivers' salaries became acute this summer after a memorable accident on the Kissing Bridge, when a city bus crashed into the Moika. Seven people died a horrible death. The detained bus driver complained about working overtime. At the same time, the airline complained about the lack of funding under the contract for the carriage of passengers in St. Petersburg.

"The salary of 130 thousand rubles indicated in the ad is fake," says Alexey Tsivilev. "This amount is only accrued for 46 hours of overtime work. In fact, the average salary of a driver for a private airline is 83,000 rubles. All other things being equal, it is more profitable to work as a taxi driver or courier. There is no such responsibility here as in public transport. And in state-owned companies, the salaries of drivers are much lower - about 75 thousand dollars.
