New fines and license revocation: Putin approves law on concealing license plates

Moscow, October 14, FederalPress. Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved a new law that could lead to the revocation of driver's licenses for using devices to conceal or change vehicle registration numbers. This article is published on the official Internet resource for legal information.

Changes have been made to the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation (CAO). Previously, driving without license plates or using devices to mask license plates was punishable by a fine of 5,000 rubles or deprivation of rights for a period of one to three months.

Now, liability for using means to conceal license plates is included in a separate part of Article 12.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. Drivers who commit these offenses will be deprived of their license for a period of one to one and a half years, and the device itself will be confiscated and destroyed.

It also introduces tougher penalties for repeated driving without a number plate, or for cases where the number plate is covered with paper or leaves, making it illegible. For this, they will lose their license for a period of one to one and a half years.

Earlier, Russia planned to ban the use of electronic cigarettes while driving and tighten control over drivers' attention. You can learn about the fines for these violations from the FederalPress article.
