Drivers in Russia to be deprived of licenses for a long period for concealing state registration plates

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a bill that will strip drivers of their licenses if they use devices that can hide or change the registration numbers of their vehicles, TASS reported on October 14.

The Administrative Code of the Russian Federation (CAO) is currently being revised. Previously, driving a vehicle without a number or using a device to hide a number plate was punishable by a fine of 5,000 rubles or deprivation of rights for a period of one to three months.

The new law places responsibility for driving a vehicle equipped with a camouflage device in a separate section of Article 12.2 of the Law on Administrative Offenses. It is known that such violations have led to the loss of rights for a period of one to one and a half years. The device itself will be confiscated and destroyed.

At the same time, the liability for repeated driving without a license plate (or if the license plate is covered with paper, leaves or otherwise dirty to the point of being illegible) increases. The term is from one to one and a half years.
