A seething spot on the Sun has turned toward Earth: scientists have assessed the likelihood of magnetic storms

Two groups of spots located in one sector of the Sun are "aimed" at the Earth. Nevertheless, scientists make positive forecasts. According to information on the websites of IKI and ISTP Institute of Solar Astronomy, large-scale explosions have not yet been recorded.

- Two groups of sunspots, numbers 3854 and 3852, have reached the Sun-Earth line in the zone of maximum influence on the Earth. In fact, we are talking about one large center of activity, divided into two according to official criteria. The total area of the group is 400 units. The number of spots is about 20, the scientists said in a statement. - At present, there are no territories with the energy to launch large flares, despite their size, but they could be collected in a day, "if you wanted to." However, the "red level" has not yet been established, and the forecast remains favorable.

The center is scheduled to remain in the zone of influence on Earth until approximately October 16.

Let us recall that a powerful magnetic storm, which lasted on Earth for almost a day, gave birth to the Northern Lights in the sky over the Krasnodar Region. The intensity of peak activity exceeded G4 levels. It ended in the afternoon of October 11.

There are five classification levels for magnetic storms, from G1 to G5. Weak storms are thought to cause minor disruptions to power systems and affect the migration routes of birds and animals. Strong storms disrupt shortwave communication and navigation systems and cause power outages in industrial networks.
