The Kremlin has assessed the possibility of introducing a tax on childlessness
The Kremlin does not yet know the details of the childlessness tax proposed in Russia, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
"It is important to know the details of the proposal. We do not know what this proposal means," Peskov said. His statements were reported by RIA Novosti.
The spokesman also recalled the previous experience of similar taxes in the Soviet Union and expressed doubts about their effectiveness. However, he noted that in the past, childlessness taxes had a dubious impact on the demographic situation in the country.
Earlier, Yevgeny Fyodorov, a member of the House of Commons Committee on Budget and Taxes, proposed introducing a tax on childlessness in Russia. According to him, taxes will stimulate the birth of children. State Duma deputy Nina Ostanina called the tax unprofessional. Her words are quoted on the official website of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.
