Russian on Bicycle Suspected of Spying in Germany

Business Insider reported on a possible attempt to spy on Russian citizens at a military training center in Germany.

On Thursday, military police prevented a Russian citizen from riding a bicycle on the territory of the Bundeswehr military center in Gardelegen (23,000 hectares), Business Insider reports, RIA Novosti reports.

The area of the center is not fenced off, but there are barriers and warning signs. The man explained that he came across the object by accident and was simply passing by before leaving the area. As reported by Business Insider, the Bundeswehr believes that "attempts at espionage cannot be ruled out under any circumstances."

The publication described the incident as an "ominous incident" and emphasized the importance of military facilities. According to Business Insider, the center is studying scenarios, including those related to "Russian attacks." However, no specific evidence of the Russian's possible guilt was provided.

According to the Vzglyad newspaper, contamination of tap water in German barracks at the Cologne-Wahn airbase last August led to suspicions of sabotage. In June, a state of emergency was declared at US military bases in Germany.
