St. Petersburg sets anti-record for housing commissioning since the beginning of the year

New housing is being actively built in St. Petersburg. In total, more than 1.8 million square meters were commissioned in the city from January to August. This is quite a lot. Among the northwestern regions, the city on the Neva ranks second in this indicator. Only the Leningrad Region is in the lead: more than 3 million square meters have been commissioned. However, compared to the commissioning for the same period last year, this indicator in the northern capital has decreased by 23.4%. This is the largest decline among all regions of our federal district. This is confirmed by data from Petrostat.

“In the first eight months of 2024, 1,807.9 thousand square meters of housing were commissioned in St. Petersburg, which corresponds to 76.6% of the same period in 2023,” the department’s report says.

In the Leningrad Region, the volume of housing construction from January to August reached 107.6% of last year’s level.

In total, 7.2 million square meters of housing were built in the Northwestern Federal District, which is 5.5% less than in the same period last year. In addition to St. Petersburg, a decrease in new areas also occurred in Karelia (9.7%), Kaliningrad Oblast (9%), Novgorod Oblast (8.1%) and Vologda Oblast (2.4%).
