A protracted magnetic storm may hit Earth in the coming days

The magnetic storm could have lasted almost a day, from the evening of November 6 to the evening of November 7.

A long-term magnetic storm of level G1 may engulf the Earth in the next few days. It is likely to last for about 20 hours. According to the websites of the Institute of Solar Astronomy IKI and ISTP, the storm will begin around 21:00 on November 6 and will end in the afternoon of November 7.

Let us recall that a powerful magnetic storm, which lasted on Earth for almost a day, gave birth to the Northern Lights in the sky over the Krasnodar Region. The intensity of peak activity exceeded G4 levels. It ended in the afternoon of October 11.

There are five classification levels for magnetic storms, from G1 to G5. Weak storms are thought to cause minor disruptions to power systems and affect the migration routes of birds and animals. Strong storms disrupt shortwave communication and navigation systems and cause power outages in industrial networks.
