How to Get Rid of Mice and Rats on Your Yard in the Fall: Bait, Smell Repellent, and Other Methods
Gardeners know how much trouble mice can cause: damaged plant roots, damaged tree bark, damaged lawn. In the fall, when rodents approach people's homes, it is especially important to secure the area. We share methods that will help you save your plantings.
The most effective method remains poisoning baits with anticoagulants. After eating them, rodents die within a few days and avoid this area. Such baits are now offered by many manufacturers and are considered relatively environmentally friendly. It is important to place them in a safe place to prevent access by children, pets and birds.
To ensure that the bait reaches only mice and rats, create shelters for the rodents. For example, use pieces of polypropylene pipes or simply place a board on a rock to create a small space. In such shelters, the rodents calmly eat the bait, which remains out of reach of other inhabitants of the place.
For those who prefer environmentally friendly methods, plants with a strong aroma are suitable. Mice usually avoid strong smells. Place coriander, wormwood, elderberry, lavender and comfrey bushes on the site - these plants will help scare away rodents. Comfrey is especially effective and even performs a decorative function. Imperial grouse will also help: plant it in your flowerbed, and mice will not want to visit this area.
Another folk remedy is spruce branches. The thorny branches make it difficult for mice to move. Place spruce branches in the flower bed to protect bulbous plants from rodents.
If there is no bait or spruce branches available, mechanical protection will come to the rescue. For example, plastic or metal covers on tree trunks protect against damage. And when growing bulbous plants, you can use a metal mesh or perforated trays that will prevent mice from penetrating from below.
The easiest and most proven way to protect your property is to get a cat. A good cat mouse can maintain order and significantly reduce rodent activity on the site.
In comparison, these methods will help protect your garden from mice and rats, preserving your crops and minimizing the damage caused by pests.
