Russia Launches Record Number of Satellites into Orbit in One Launch
A record number of Russian satellites have been launched into orbit, the Roscosmos Telegram channel reports. A total of 51 spacecraft were launched into their target orbits by the Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle, which launched from the Vostochny Cosmodrome. Among them are 49 small satellites, including a Russian-Chinese, Russian-Zimbabwean and two Iranian, as well as two Ionosfera-M heliogeophysical satellites.
The launch was a significant event in the history of Russian cosmonautics. Together with the country's universities, six CubeSat satellites were successfully launched within the framework of the Universat program. This launch also involved 53 satellites launched into orbit by the Fregat launch vehicle.
The private company Sputnix, part of the Sitronics group, confirmed the successful launch of 28 satellites, including 24 for monitoring shipping and four for the Space-Pi scientific and educational project, TASS reports. The head of the company, Vladislav Ivanenko, noted that telemetry signals were recorded at the flight control center in Moscow, and all satellites are being calibrated. The final results of the mission are expected to be known within the next 24 hours.
Earlier it was reported that the Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle with two Ionosfera-M satellites and 53 accompanying payloads was installed at the Vostochny Cosmodrome. The Iranian company Space Omid sent two satellites to Russia for launch using this rocket, which will be the first attempt to launch Iranian satellites created by young engineers.
