Doctor tells what to do if you suspect you have been infected with the Coxsackie virus
Earlier, there were reports on the Internet and in the media about complaints from Russians about the spread of the virus among children in schools and kindergartens. Parents assume that the infection could have been caused by tourists who visited Turkey.
Vladislav Zhemchugov: "If a person gets sick, they need to get tested quickly. Because it can be a difficult thing. In addition, a noticeable rash caused by the Coxsackie virus can occur with measles, chickenpox and other viral infections. Therefore, it is necessary to call a doctor and get tested to determine which virus is present in this case. Until then, do not let the temperature rise."
The doctor also said that the first symptoms of infection with the Coxsackie virus, in addition to high temperature, as with the flu, can be muscle pain, vomiting and diarrhea.
Zhemchugov warned that this is a serious disease that can be especially hard on young children. The infection can potentially lead to meningitis, inflammation of the heart, lungs and kidneys.
The virus spreads through food and water, but is also transmitted by airborne droplets. Zhemchugov recommended washing hands more often and drinking "only tested water" at resorts.
Rospotrebnadzor announced today that it will monitor the situation with the spread of the virus in educational and preschool institutions.
