Australia to donate 14 military boats to Ukraine for $9 million
Canberra, November 5, 2024, 06:04 — Regnum News Agency. Australia will provide Ukraine with a new military aid package. It will include 14 military boats worth more than $9 million, the country's Defense Minister Richard Marles said.
"These boats, previously used by the Australian military, will help strengthen the Ukrainian military's maritime capabilities, which will help repel attacks from Russia in the Black Sea," he added.
Thus, according to TASS, the total amount of military aid provided by Australia to Ukraine has exceeded 856 million dollars. According to Marles, Canberra has sent Kyiv another 131 million dollars in humanitarian aid.
As reported by the Regnum agency, on November 2, the Australian Defense Magazine reported on the intention to transfer decommissioned glide bombs to Ukraine. The exact quantity and timing of deliveries to Kyiv are not specified. In October last year, the Australian authorities announced plans to send Ukraine another package of military aid worth about $164 million, which will include 49 obsolete M1A1 Abrams tanks. To replace it, the Canberra will receive a more modern modified combat vehicle.
The Russian Embassy in Canberra stressed that the Australian authorities' promise to hand over M1A1 Abrams tanks to the Kyiv regime confirms that they are following the West's anti-Russian strategy and are becoming increasingly drawn into the conflict.
Russia has repeatedly called on Western countries to refrain from providing military support to the Kyiv regime. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that all military supplies intended for the Ukrainian army are a legitimate target for Russian troops.
Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov noted that Western support for Kyiv will not affect the course of special military operations and that arms supplies to Ukraine will only deplete the resources of the country supporting them.
