Vasily Golubev will leave his post after 14 years of service. He did not say what he would do next. In his youth, Golubev dreamed of becoming a pilot at the Kharkov Aviation Institute, but in the end he entered the Moscow Institute of Management.

Governor Vasily Golubev announced his resignation in his Telegram channel due to a transfer to another job.

"There are new things and tasks ahead of us. But wherever I work in the future, my main priority will always be the support and development of my beloved Rostov region," the politician wrote.

Golubev thanked the residents of Rostov and the region, as well as the country's leadership.

He served as governor of the Rostov region for 14 years, starting in the summer of 2010. Golubev is now serving his third term as governor, and his term ends in 2025.

Vedomosti sources cited Golubev's long tenure in power as the reason for his departure. Local political scientist Vitaly Ivanov called the politician a member of the "best part of the governor's legion" and said he had no complaints about him, but "we must give way to the youth."

Golubev was born in 1957 in the Tatsinsky district of the Rostov region, he is 67 years old. He planned to become a pilot, but did not enter the Kharkov Aviation Institute. Later, the politician admitted that he often remembered his dreams. He also tried to enter the Moscow Aviation Institute, but eventually entered the Moscow Institute of Management named after Sergo Ordzhonikidze, which he graduated in 1980. In 1997 he graduated from the Russian Academy of Public Administration under the President.

At the age of 17, he worked as a mechanic at the Sholokhovskaya mine, was the chief engineer, and soon headed the operations department of one of the motor transport companies in the Moscow region. In 1991, Golubev was appointed head of the administration of the Leninsky district of the Moscow region and held this position until 1999. He then became deputy head of the district Anatoly Tyazhlov, and in 2003 he returned to the head of the Leninsky district administration, which he headed until 2010.
