Doctor tells what to do if you suspect you have been infected with the Coxsackie virus
Earlier, the Internet and the media reported complaints from Russians about the spread of the virus among children in schools and kindergartens. Parents claim that the infection could have been caused by tourists who visited Turkey.
Vladislav Zhemchugov: "If a person is sick, he needs to get tested urgently. Because it can be hard work. In addition, measles, chickenpox and other viral infections can cause a noticeable rash caused by the Coxsackie virus. So in this case, you should see a doctor and get tested to find out what virus you have. Please make sure that the temperature does not rise before that time."
The doctor also reported that the first symptoms of infection with the Coxsackie virus, in addition to flu-like fever, may include muscle pain, vomiting and diarrhea.
Zhemchugov warned that this is a serious disease and it can be especially hard on small children. Potentially, the infection can lead to meningitis, inflammation of the heart, lungs and kidneys.
The virus spreads through food and water, but can also be contagious. Zhemchugov advised people to wash their hands more often and drink "only tested water" at the resort.
Earlier today, Rospotrebnadzor announced that it would monitor the spread of the virus in educational and preschool institutions.
