At that time, oats were much more popular than wheat and barley and occupied a niche among the main grain crops. The Scottish recipe for crispy pastries became popular all over the world. The classic treat includes oatmeal, butter and sugar.

Oatmeal cookies are not only a tasty food, but also a storehouse of useful substances. Not only does it fill you up, but it also helps maintain energy levels throughout the day.

One of the secrets of this delicacy is its texture. It combines crunchiness and softness inside, especially if you add raisins, nuts or chocolate.

Of course, you shouldn't compare cookies with oatmeal or muesli. When baked, many vitamins and proteins contained in oat grains are destroyed, but minerals are preserved.

Cookies are rich in fiber. It helps normalize digestion, maintain intestinal health, and lower blood cholesterol levels. Regular consumption of high-fiber foods can also help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Oatmeal cookies are also rich in B vitamins, which help maintain normal metabolism and strengthen the nervous system. Vitamin B1 (thiamine) in oats improves cognitive function and helps the body cope with stress.

Oatmeal contains complex carbohydrates that digest slowly, providing long-lasting energy and keeping blood sugar levels stable. This makes the cookies a great snack for people watching their blood sugar or following a healthy diet.

Adding extra ingredients like nuts, seeds, or dried fruit increases the amount of protein, healthy fats, and antioxidants. This makes oatmeal cookies more nutritious and beneficial for overall health.

Currently, cookies comply with GOST 24901-2014. Oatmeal cookies must be round or oval. Oatmeal and/or flakes contain no more than 14% moisture, mass fraction of 10.5% or less, total sugars no more than 40% and fats no more than 25%.

Food engineer and food industry technologist Seraphim Barbolin advises that when buying cookies, first of all, look at the packaging and composition. It is better not to buy such a product if it contains a huge number of additives.

If you can see even through the packaging that the cookies are of different sizes, this may indicate a violation of the cooking technology. According to the specialist, different shapes indicate that the dough has flowed.

If the shelf life of the cookies is about 6 months, then the composition contains chemical additives. The cookies must contain at least 14% oat flour and no more than 40% sugar. Inclusions of sugar particles or fruit raw materials on the surface are allowed. Sample No. 4 contained malt.

The package should be tightly closed, and there should be no enemies inside. When opening, we examine the cookies. As we said earlier, they should be of the same shape and size, and also without large cracks. It is not good if there are burnt ones in the pack.

Broken cookies are allowed, but no more than 2 pieces per package. The product can be easily checked for freshness by pressing on the cookie. If it is soft, then everything is fine. Sometimes you come across such a hard and tough treat that it is not surprising to break your teeth on it. The brittleness of oatmeal cookies indicates that they are overdried.

Oatmeal cookies should be soft and pleasant. Samples #3 and #4 passed the test, the rest were stale and too crumbly.

Pour tea into four mugs to check how well the cookies will soak in it. After being dipped into the liquid, they should not lose their shape too much and remain in pieces. It is good if the cookies are slightly dense.

Samples #3 and #4 passed the folk test again. The cookies did not lose their shape too much after being in the liquid for ten seconds.

To test the program, we sent four samples of oatmeal cookies for study to the laboratory of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Test - St. Petersburg". Which product is the highest quality?

Samples 2 and 4 passed the tests with flying colors. Sample 3 exceeds the norm in terms of the proportion of valga, but within the margin of error. When determining the organoleptic indicators of sample 1 — evaluating the shape and surface — questions arose.

In the end, samples No. 2 and No. 4 performed best in the laboratory tests.

The cost of cookies depends on their weight and composition. On average, you can buy them from 80 rubles.

Oatmeal cookies are a healthy and delicious dessert that is easy to make at home. They have a more delicate texture than the classic version, but still retain all the beneficial properties of oats.

Step 1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. In a deep bowl, mix the oat flour, baking powder and a pinch of salt.

Step 2. In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter with sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla sugar, continue beating until smooth.

Step 3. Gradually add the oat flour to the butter mixture, stirring gently. If the dough is too thick, add a couple of tablespoons of milk to make it softer and more elastic.

Step 4: At the end of kneading, you can add raisins, nuts or chocolate chips - they will give the cookies extra sweetness and texture.

Step 5: Form the dough into small balls and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. The cookies will puff up a bit during baking, so leave a little space between them.

Step 6: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the cookies until the edges are golden and the centers are slightly soft, about 12 to 15 minutes.

After baking, let the cookies cool on the baking sheet, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. Oatmeal cookies are a great alternative to regular desserts, especially for those who watch their diet.
